Back-to-Front/Inside-Out/Upside-Down

Great!  Awesome!!!  I’ve written the beginning and end of a story.  Now to figure out what on earth(!) I’m going to put in the middle!!  How is it possible to do such a thing?  I’m honestly wondering whether there are other writers out there who write back-to-front/inside-out/upside-down, without a plan or the faintest idea of where they are going.  Is this normal??

  1. This made me laugh! Usually, when we ask if something’s normal, it’s not. But in this case, it all makes sense.

How a story is written really depends on the story. Sometimes it’s a sentence or phrase that winds up as the beginning or end. Sometimes an event will serve well for the middle of the story, and the beginning and end are built on it. For a longer story especially, it’s easy to have a beginning and an end before the middle fills out.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, though…I’m not the most “normal” person around 🙂 Good luck figuring out the middle.

  2. It’s good to see I haven’t lost my sense of humour 😉 You may/may not be the most “normal” person around but it’s good to know I’m not alone 🙂 Thanks for the luck Janna, I’m going to need it!
