Written for Cognitive Reflection Picture Writing Challenge #22 and the following quote:
‘Humility is the situation of the earth. The earth is always there, never remembered, always trodden on by everyone, somewhere we cast and pour out all the refuse, all we don’t need. It’s there, silent and accepting everything and in a miraculous way making out of all the refuse new richness in spite of corruption, transforming corruption itself into a power of life and a new possibility of creativeness, open to the sunshine, open to the rain, ready to receive any seed we sow and capable of bringing thirtyfold, sixtyfold, a hundred fold out of every seed… ‘
The track played again and again.
It was the same one each time.
Around each bend I was met
with the same scene:
the notes had peeled
off the bottoms of their shoes
had stuck fast to the path
imprinting an elaborate pattern
covered by twigs and fallen branches.
I fell to my knees and leaned over
resting my forehead on the ground.
The limbs of trees seasoned
moved by my yearning spirit
approved of my first prostration.
The feint sunlight skimmed the earth
dancing over their notes
revealing the mark they had made
on the track
and came together –
a melodious symphony
