Breaking Dawn

‘twas the day the birds went away
morning silence, mourning
first light

void of their call, in slumber stay
aurora-dew budding
in flight

I love waking in the early hours of the morning when it’s still dark and the air is still deep.  I used to hear the grave, soothing, flute-like song of the magpies.  But now they have ‘gone away’ (actually, I shifted places) and the mornings seem a little empty.

Written for Amreen’s ‘Be Inspired Weekly challenge # 20’ which was to write a Memento (a poem about a holiday or anniversary, in this case it was the birds that went on holiday!

    1. It is indeed, unfortunately for us we are slowly rolling into autumn, which can only mean one thing: winter is on its way! I am such a pessimist at times 🙂

  1. This is blissful and enchanting! The poem holds so much imagery and the latter part shows your sadness because of their absence. I really like how you painted 2 different pictures in this small poem style. I appreciate your participation for the challenge and I really hope all the beautiful things find your way soon 🙂

    Regards

      1. You’re welcome El! You are fun and your poems too! I agree with you on this. The poem read really good on rhythm. It is so amazing to learn these different poetry forms and how they read!

        🙂
